Folks, our dear friend Eduardo Brummel of Salida—

a long-time poetry pal—has suffered a stroke

I wrote this poem for him:

Ritual

 

Overcast winter morning

sipping smoky lapsang souchong

working in my den at the computer

 

An email’s bad news like a zen swat

Unexpected. Ed’s in the hospital

after a sudden stroke

 

I stop. Turn to ritual. Off with the lamps

Light a candle. Love made visible

Watch flickering shadows

 

like cryptic poems, spirit moths

Listening to the ring of a singing bowl

until my whole being vibrates

 

The complex scent of a slickrock

arroyo takes me away. I inhale

piñon & pepper, moss & amber

 

as though in a Paradox gully studded

with the haphazard gems of

old river conglomerate

 

& breathe out intention

like an aromatic prayer. Like a gentle

healing. Like a flame’s fiercest hug

Hello out there—

Regular visitors and readers will quickly spot that something looks a little  different, a new and slightly simpler design for this online poetry adventure, simpler we hope, but not just new for the sake of  the new. Turns out that the web-site-building program we have been using to craft these pages, has reached what the computer world calls its ‘end of life.’ So we had to look for a new tool to crate this journal. And for the moment it seems we found good one. All the poems and poets that we have showcased in our first 70 issues, since 2018, are now available to browse and enjoy under the BACK ISSUES link.  And it looks like we have an exciting line-up of Western poets ready to feature in the next few issues. Stay tuned.
